March 7th We took advantage of the first weather break of the season. We had about 25 members gather at Borchardt Speed/Automotive for a tour of his establishment. Mike Borchardt started the day explaining that he started in the 60’s working for Schliepers speed shop in Waukesha. From there he became a manager for Motorsport Research on Loomis road in Greenfield. When motorsport closed Mike bought the business and took over the store. He moved the business to its current location around 1978. We were able to look around the store as well as tour his engine shop/ machining area. He can build/machine an engine complete including dyno testing it. They will also do any level of machine work you request. There was a lot of questions and conversation all morning. All in attendance got some insight into what it takes to build an engine. From there we went down the street to Melrose restaurant for a nice lunch. Unfortunately none of my pictures were any good. The workings of a new android phone did me in. Live and learn. A good day was had by all. Thanks to Mike Borchardt for his hospitality and thanks to all who attended.
