This is Fred Adams from Findlay, Ohio.I arrived at the 510th Engr Co in Pleiku, on Thanksgiving Day 1967. My mos was 62-B10, Heavy Equipment Mechanic. After my arrival I was notified that I would be put on guard duty, along with some of the other FNG's, because most of the company was going over to the 4th Inf Div to see the Bob Hope show. Also as most of the tents still weren't sandbagged,I was put on sandbag detail. I didn't even get to see the maint shop untill I was sent to the 70th Engr Bn, Hq Co as a liason mech. That was in Feb or Mar of 1968. I stayed and lived with some heavy equip mechs from Hq Co 70th. Being a laison mechanic I worked with other mechs from the Line Companies 70th, 299 Engr Bn, 630th Engrs LE, a Land Clearing Plt from the 4th Inf Div, 815 Engrs, and 20th Engrs. Most of these were on Engineer Hill. I even got to go on a couple of convoys to Kontum, to the 299th Engr! s,B Co to work on a 290M tractor that was having turbo problems. I stayed with the 70th Hq Co, till Oct 68 when the 70th Engrs moved to Ban Me Thuot, VN. I then moved back to the 510th,at 62nd Maint Bn, untill left to DEROS back to the states in Dec 68. I went before the 62nd Bn promotion board, making SGT E-5. I'm sending you some pictures you mght remember. If you have any, please send them my way,OK?
